Conservation and Restoration of earthquake affected monuments
in Latur and Osmanabad districts, for The Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Maharashtra , India

The earthquake of September 1993 which rocked Maharashtra , severely affected several heritage monuments in the Marathwada region. As part of the Rehabilitation programme, the World Bank extended credit for restoring important historical monuments that were damaged.

The Government of Maharashtra appointed consultants to document a plan of Preservation and Restoration to enable the directorate of Archaelogy to undertake the execution.

The scope of work included survey and inspection of the site, recommending the necessary structural and conservational interventions and preparing necessary tender documents for selecting the Contractors.

There were 59 heritage complexes to be restored. They included 7 temples, 4 forts and 2 caves, 1 maqbara.
